How to prepare for AGI without buying every AI tool.

Every new model creates a new wave of software, promises and fear of missing out. A business can quickly accumulate meeting assistants, writing tools, chatbots, automation platforms and disconnected experiments. The stack grows while the original operating problem remains untouched.

A better preparation sequence begins with the constraint. Identify the repeated failure that costs the most money, time or trust. Map how it starts, which information is required, who owns the decision, what action should follow and what proof confirms completion.

Only then choose the smallest capable agent. Give it the minimum permissions required for that workflow. Connect approved knowledge rather than the entire company drive. Place a human approval point before sensitive or irreversible actions. Record the inputs, outputs, tool calls and failure state.

Run the workflow long enough to compare it with the old process. Measure response time, completion, exception rate, revenue movement and human time returned. If the result is useful and controlled, expand deliberately. If it is not, improve the workflow before adding more intelligence.

This approach remains valuable even as models become more capable. The model can change without forcing the business to redesign its truth, permissions and evidence. Readiness is therefore not loyalty to one tool. It is an operating structure that can safely use better intelligence when it arrives.
