PEOPLE AND AI / 28 August 2026

What happens to a team when AI agents take the repeatable work?

The first change should not be fewer people. It should be clearer ownership, fewer repeated tasks and more time for judgement.

By Klarnow

AI conversations often jump from one automated task to the disappearance of entire jobs. That framing hides the operating question a business needs to answer first: which parts of the role require judgement, trust and accountability, and which parts are repeated execution held together by memory?

A responsible installation maps work before it maps people out. Repeated capture, reminders, summaries, record updates and approved routing may be suitable for agents. Negotiation, sensitive conversations, exceptions, creative direction and commitments with material consequence usually need a person.

The team then needs a new scorecard. Staff should not be rewarded for performing steps the system can complete reliably. They should be measured on decisions, customer outcomes, exception handling, improvement of the operating truth and the quality of the work the agent cannot own.

People also need a clear right to stop the system. If an agent behaves unexpectedly or the context changes, the owner must be able to pause, inspect and correct the workflow. Automation that staff cannot understand will create resistance even when the underlying idea is useful.

Klarnow's aim is to remove founder and team dependence from repeated execution without removing human responsibility. The result should be a smaller operational burden, a clearer role for each person and evidence that the company can move when the founder is not in every hand-off.
